FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE IN PERFORMANCE COACHING


Course Overview

The programme covers the theory and practice of coaching providing those attending with an underlying philosophy of coaching.  The course comprises of 4 x 2 day Modules and offers the opportunity to practice a variety of practical skills.  The programme is biased towards an action-orientated integrative blend of coaching philosophies and skills.

Module One: Basic Coaching Foundation

Objectives

  • Provide a definition of coaching

  • Consider the differences between coaching, counselling and psychotherapy

  • Learn about the diverse nature of clients and client problems

  • Provide a basic model for coaching

  • Learn how to use a coaching assessment form and note-taking

  • Learn to apply a problem-solving skills approach to counter impeding goal attainment

  • Practice a range of communication skills


Module Two: Action Orientated Approaches to Coaching

Objectives

  • Consider the impact of learning styles and how these relate to the coaching process

  • Consider the Driving Force for Change Model

  • Be introduced to a range of coaching interventions geared to improving client motivation

  • Consider ways of overcoming obstacles to implementing the client’s action plan

  • Practice a range of skills associated with the material above

Module Three: Strategies and Interventions

Objectives

  • Reinforce the concept of taking personal responsibility for change

  • Provide strategies to deal with emotional interference

  • Learn about Time Management and Personal Management skills

  • Learn about activities that reinforce/create the climate to produce effective results (80/20 rule)

  • Consider how to maintain coaching skills

  • Consider further individual training requirements

  • Practice a range of skills associated with the material above including a mock session with a client

Module Four: Experiential Accreditation Module

Objectives

  • This module is totally experiential and delegates work with actors using the skills gained to focus on behavioural contracting using the ‘Transparent Tripartite Model’. 

  • During the course each participant undertakes a 45-minute session and will then receive feedback on his or her performance. 

  • Delegates who do not pass the accrediting experiential module will either be asked to retake the module or be offered a certificate of attendance for the training already undertaken.

  • As this Module is undertaken in small groups of 6 and, depending on course numbers, there may be more than one set of dates supplied to cater for numbers.

Additional Course Requirements

Assignment

·         To write a personal philosophy of coaching of approximately 1,000 words.

Reflective Log

·         Delegates will be asked to keep a reflective log outlining their learning and the ways in which this is impacting on their coaching, interactions with others and self.

Coaching Transcript

·         To undertake a 30-minute coaching session in pairs and to write this up in verbatim fashion, together with a breakdown of the skills used.  It is not expected that the client’s issues will be dealt with fully rather that the coach can outline the process used and the thinking behind these.

Certification

Upon completion of the course a Certificate will be awarded.  This Certificate is a Cedar Internal Certificate and the training programme has been externally recognised by the Association for Coaching. Delegates cannot successful obtain their certificate and Cedar Accreditation unless a pass is obtained in both the written as well as experiential work.

External Recognition

This course is externally recognised by the Association for Coaching and individuals who successfully complete the course can gain automatic entry at Associate level providing they can also evidence 40 hours of coaching work.  In house coaching work as well as external coaching work with clients will be sufficient to evidence hours.

Cost

The total cost of the course is £2,950 + VAT and an early bird discount of £350 is available for bookings before 1st April 2009.
